About this event

This is a easy-paced walk from the 'Centre of Scotland' to the battlefield of Invernahavon and along the river Spey.

During the walk, we will point out the natural heritage and historic features which can be viewed from our route. After a break midway, (weather dependent), we will complete the walk by visiting Shanval and hearing about this old settlement and finish with a view from the Macpherson cairn looking up the Spey towards Laggan Bridge.

We follow tracks and field-edges on a gentle slope down and a slightly steeper climb back up to complete the walk.

This route is graded as MODERATE. Sturdy footwear is essential.

Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are sufficiently fit and healthy to take part in this moderate graded walk (up to 3hrs in length, some gradient and or rough terrain).

The tour starts at 10 am. Please arrive 10 mins early.

This tour is for adults only and is not suitable for disabled access. No dogs, please.

About this event

Come and hear to this talk by Eve Boyle, Communities Liaison Manager, Historic Environment Scotland about the Battle of Nechtansmere and the debate about whether it took place locally.

It was one of ancient Britain's most decisive battles between the Picts and Anglo-Saxons. The archaeological digs at Torr Alvie and Croftgowan may shed some fresh light on these views.

The talk will take place at Kincraig Community Hall and starts at 7.30pm, please arrive 10 mins early. The hall has free parking and disabled access.

Pre-booking is required.

On arrival, please make yourself known to the Badenoch Heritage staff, who will check your registration.

Face masks are required to be worn indoors, unless medically exempt. Sorry, no food or drink will be available.
